Vintage Vocabulary 101

100_6879Repeat after me — lenticular (len TIK yoo luhr).

I learn something about antiques and vintage things every day.   Today, I’m working on an eBay listing for a 1964 Barry Goldwater campaign pin.  It has a small pair of thick-rimmed eyeglasses (Goldwater’s trademark) with a dangling charm.  The charm has a picture of Barry Goldwater and the text “Goldwater in ’64”.  As you move the charm, the image changes between the face and the text.  I see these all the time, particularly in children’s toys, but have never sold one and, therefore, never gave a thought to what they might actually be called.   A changing picture pin?  A moving image pin?  Nope.  This is a lenticular image pin.  Who knew?

OK, they are also commonly called flasher pins, but I like lenticular better.  So there.
